Keep it fresh. Keep it valuable.

Too much of what farmers grow is lost after harvest, in storage, on trucks and at markets. Agrikeep Labs and Technologies is building storage, field data tools and analytics to keep crops in good condition from the farm to the buyer.

1 in 5 lost before market

Nearly 1 in 5 roots and tubers in sub-Saharan Africa is lost in handling and storage alone, before processing and transport add more.

That is food grown and paid for that never reaches a plate, and income farmers and traders never see.

Storage

Harvested crops are still living, breathing organisms. How they’re stored determines how long they stay fresh.

We study how crops respond to their surroundings and design storage around it, so crops stay in good condition for longer.

Agrikeep PHIP

Our post-harvest intelligence platform brings together storage readings, and analyse the data from our own research.

It will show how a storage facility is performing and where losses are likely to start, so partners can act while crops are still good.

EXTO

Extension officers still record most field data on paper or in note-taking apps, and much of it can't be checked.

EXTO gives officers a structured way to collect data in the field, and gives organisations data they can trust.

Research

Much storage research was done in other climates or never left the report table or offices.

We will test in real storage conditions, in our own weather, with local crop varieties, and we want to work with partners who need answers they can use.

Tip

1/10

A harvested crop is still alive. It breathes and gives off heat and moisture, so a closed, hot room speeds up spoilage.
